An Iranian-American student at UCLA was tasered on Tuesday by campus police for failing to provide proper identification during a random security check at the school library. Police tasered the student even after he was handcuffed and posed no threat to anyone.

GERALD LEVERT

Gerald Levert, the R&B singer whose hits included “I Swear” and “I’d Give Anything,” as well as chart-toppers with the groups LeVert and LSG, has died, according to his label, Atlantic Records. He was 40.

Levert died of a heart attack Friday at his Cleveland, Ohio, home, according a statement from Atlantic. Levert had four children.

“He was one of the greatest voices of our time, who sang with unmatched soulfulness and power, as well as a tremendously gifted composer and an accomplished producer,” the statement read. “Above all, he was an exceptional human being whose warmth and grace inspired us all.”

We are very saddened to announce the passing of Marie Rudisill, the beloved “Fruitcake Lady.” She died Saturday, November 3rd in Hudson, Florida. Born Edna Marie Faulk in Monroeville, Alabama, she was aunt to Truman Capote, and helped to raise him in Alabama and New York City when he was still young.

She made millions of viewers laugh appearing regularly on “The Tonight Show” in her “Ask The Fruitcake Lady” segments. She began her career in television at 89, teaching Jay and Mel Gibson how to make fruitcake. She went on to do cooking segments with Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Hugh Grant.

Britney Spears has filed for divorce Tuesday from her husband, former backup dancer and aspiring rapper Kevin Federline. The Los Angeles County Superior Court filing cites “irreconcilable differences,” said court spokeswoman Kathy Roberts.

Their prenup is said to be iron clad and Britney is waiving her right for spousal support, of course. Britney gave the date of separation as November 6, 2006.

Spears, 24, married Federline, 28, in 2004. They have a 1-year-old son, Sean Preston, and an infant son who was born Sept. 12. The divorce papers identify the baby as Jayden James Federline.
